In situ video projections
The Pulses project is rooted in a question that runs through Pia Vidal’s work: “Where does the sacred part of the world reside? “
In this reflection, the sacred does not refer to religion but to an autonomous, intelligent life force, and above all one animated by Love—not the love between two people, but a state of being, a way of existing in the world. According to the artist, this force is woven into the very fabric of all things.
A great lover of nature and a traveler, she has often felt, in natural landscapes, a connection to something vaster than herself. Does this sacred aspect reside in specific places, chosen and consecrated by humans—churches, mosques—or does this impulse exist everywhere, present in everything, and in each of us?
Pulses explores this question through site-specific video projections. The projections are not imposed images, but rather revelatory phenomena: they highlight contours, extend lines, and make the surface of the space vibrate.
Pia uses a video projector, a portable battery, and a computer, which allows her to move freely and intervene directly at the chosen sites.
Each creation begins with a site survey: she observes the geography, light, volumes, and materials. She takes study photographs to identify viewing angles, projection zones, and the most responsive surfaces based on their color, texture, or relief.
Back in the studio, she designs several visuals inspired by the site, conceived to adapt to the surface and reveal its unique qualities.
The visuals are then tested on-site, often at dusk, to fine-tune the interplay between the image, the material, and the ambient light. This back-and-forth between observation, creation, and projection constitutes a ritual of attentiveness and resonance.
The final work retains this meditative and sensitive quality, intimately linked to the place that inspired it.
